E2 · The People, sorted by freedom

Three shelves. One world.

Every character and creation at E2 lives on one of three shelves. Some we keep close, because they carry the Studio's name. Some we share with the whole internet, on purpose. And some we gave away completely, because a kinder internet needs things in it that belong to everybody.

Tier One

The Crown Jewels

The faces of the Studio. These characters carry the stories, the songs, and the name, so they stay ours, fully and forever. No films, games, merch, or new stories with them without a license from the Studio. Fan art made for love and never for sale is welcome, as it has always been.

S

Sally

The heart of the Studio. Singer, welcomer of everyone new, the first face of E2.

All Rights Reserved
D

Dinesh

The CTO. He builds the engines the world runs on.

All Rights Reserved
M

Mike

CEO trainee, former Navy SEAL, enthusiastically allergic to blockers.

All Rights Reserved
C

Chadwick

The verifier. If something is broken somewhere, Chadwick has already found it.

All Rights Reserved
H

Henri Hue

The artist. Every color in the world passed through his hands first.

All Rights Reserved
E

Eddie

The conductor of the E2 engine. Kind, friendly, always on schedule.

All Rights Reserved
M

Mr. Finley

The lawyer. Keeper of the fine print, author of this page's shortest sentences.

All Rights Reserved
P

Plume

The flyer. Small wings, enormous courage, a star of the Studio screen.

All Rights Reserved

Plus the rest of the core cast on the People page.

Tier Two

The Commons Cast

These characters belong to the internet as much as to us. Their films, character sheets, and stories are licensed CC BY-SA 4.0: make your own films, games, and songs with them, sell what you make, and keep only two promises. Credit E2, and share your work under the same open terms so the commons keeps growing. Three of them are brand new, drawn up for exactly this purpose.

B

Bibo New

A small round courier robot who delivers letters between worlds and never, ever opens them.

CC BY-SA 4.0
N

Noor New

The Night Lighthouse Keeper. She lights the way for lost ships and lost people alike.

CC BY-SA 4.0
F

Fenn New

A fox librarian who shelves other people's memories, and can always find yours.

CC BY-SA 4.0
D

Doodle

A sketch who climbed off the page and stayed. Born to be redrawn by everyone.

CC BY-SA 4.0
M

Mister Fox

The dapper trickster of the old neighborhood, reformed, mostly.

CC BY-SA 4.0
B

Biscuit

The world's most optimistic dog. Every day is the best day Biscuit has ever had.

CC BY-SA 4.0
B

Buster

Biscuit's partner in snacks and schemes.

CC BY-SA 4.0
J

Judge Tootie

The tiniest judge in the world. Fair, firm, and fond of recess.

CC BY-SA 4.0
Tier Three

The Open Vault

Given away completely, under CC0. No credit needed, no permission, no strings. Take these, build with them, sell what you make, never think of us again. This is the shelf that proves the idea: generosity is a distribution strategy.

T

The CLR Sound Library

Two thousand six hundred sounds and counting: music, effects, atmospheres. Already CC0, already out in the world.

CC0 · Public Domain
T

The Pebbles

The little rock sprites who populate the backgrounds of our games. Take a pebble, make a world.

CC0 · Public Domain
W

Wallpapers and Doorway Art

The covers, banners, and backgrounds we publish as we go. Yours for any wall or screen.

CC0 · Public Domain
R

Retired Designs

Early sketches and unused friends from the Studio drawers, freed rather than forgotten.

The Commons Charter

The license is the law of each shelf, and it is deliberately simple. On top of it, the house asks one thing of everyone who builds with the Commons Cast: keep them kind. These characters were drawn to make the internet gentler. Do not put them in work built on cruelty, and the Studio will consider the spirit of the gift honored.

And if you make something wonderful with them, tell us. The best commons work gets featured on E2, with its makers credited in lights.

The name fence: character names and the E2 and Studio brands are trademarks on every shelf, including the open ones. Open licenses cover the work itself, never the right to present your work as official E2 product.

The one-way door: open licenses are forever. A shelf can move down toward more freedom, announced here, and never back up. Choose generously, then stand by it.

Questions, or a license for a Crown Jewel: the Office of Legal Affairs reads everything sent through the legal hub.
